“Alright buddy, nothing to be worried about. It’s just a few drinks with a woman. You have done this plenty of times before. Maybe not with a woman who looks as amazing as this one, but you got this.”
After a brief pep talk, Minoru Tanahashi stepped out of Mercedes Maybach GLS 600, smoothed his sky blue suit jacket, and made his way inside the bar he and Isis had agreed to meet at. It wasn’t hard to find Isis. The young woman had a way of standing out. She sat at the bar wearing a short silver mini dress. Her legs were crossed. Her hands resting on her knee. She turned around to notice Minoru. She beckons him over. Minoru smiles as soon as he sees her and quickly makes his way towards the bar.
“Kon'nichiwa, nice to finally see you in person. I have to say, as wonderful as pictures are and the video of your debut was, this is much better.”
He smirked and gave a little wink as he sat down and order himself a whiskey on the rocks. Isis went ahead and ordered herself the same thing. As they waited for their drinks, Isis said.
“I was pulling for you by the way. Between you and the freak, you would make a better champion.”
“Thank you. I certainly agree with you. Unfortunately, a supposed friend didn’t.”
He sighs and lowers his head slightly, a mix of anger and sadness overtaking him for a moment until he shakes his head and looks back up at Isis with a smile, they get their drinks and he raises his glass.
“But for now, let’s focus on better things like the start of what I am certain will be a fun and fruitful foray into wrestling for The Utopian Female. Kampai.”
She nods. Isis clanks her and Minoru’s glass together.
“Fun for me, a complete nightmare for my opponents. I doubt we’ll step in the ring anytime soon though, so don’t worry. You’re safe, for now.”
She says with a playful chuckle. He smiles and fakes wiping a bit of sweat from his brow.
“Well, I guess it is my lucky day.”
He chuckles and takes a quick sip of his drink.
“I definitely think I will enjoy watching you beat people up much more than being beaten up by you. I mean the idea of you getting your hands on me does sound fun, but maybe in a different setting.”
He flashes a smile and winks at her. Isis smirks. She takes a sip from her glass.
“Always this charming?”
“I try to be. Sitting here with a true work of art does make it much easier to think of compliments.”
He takes a sip of his drink, that smile not showing any signs of fading.
“Careful. Don’t want to inflate my ego more than it already is. I do walk around calling myself the Utopian Female.”
Isis says chuckling. She takes another sip from her glass.
“I wasn’t sure at first whether to meet you or not. I didn’t doubt you were a nice guy. Don’t understand why your former friend turned on you for that Crowley Cult. I’m new to this. I want to make a name for myself like everyone else. I have been told you can either make friends or make money, I can’t have both. More about me questioning whether fraternizing with you was a good thing.”
Isis takes a deep breath.
“Felt like you needed company. I figured why not. I feel confident enough that you are one of the good ones.”
“I do appreciate the company and I do like to think of myself as one of the good ones. That whole, you can make friends or money thing, some greedy asshole who was bad at being a friend came up with that. You can do both, you just have to make friends with people who understand that when the bell rings, you’re not buddies, you’re competitors. I thought I had a friend who understood that, but I think everything fell apart with that triple threat match. Maybe I should have tried to get the pin on the other person, but I want to be a champion just as badly as she does.”
He takes a deep breath, downs the rest of his drink, and orders another.
“I can tell you this. I’ve been wrestling for nearly ten years, been around the business since I was a kid. You will make plenty of money. After the match my former friend was in, I was casually watching the feed as I prepared for my match. When you came out, I instantly took notice and my eyes were glued to the screen. Sure it’s partly because you are really freaking hot, but there was more to it. I am excited to see your first match and what you can do.”
His second drink came and again he raised his glass towards Isis and gave her a nod before taking a sip. With a fourth of her drink left, she decides to down it so she can request another.
“Can’t wait to crush someone. For now...”
Isis rests her hand on Minoru’s shoulder.
“I’m focused on having a good time with a good guy.”
“I think I might know one of those.”
Minoru chuckles a bit and smiles.
“I do appreciate the invitation. It’s been a very rough very strange week. This time last week I was obsessing over match footage and getting into a very violent mindset. Then I had probably the best match of my career, came within an eyelash of winning the title two different times, got betrayed by one of my best friends, got stitched up, got told to take it easy, ended up drinking and spending time with… Well, it was a hell of a week.”
He takes a large gulp of his drink, sighs slightly, then goes back to smiling.
“But right now, I am going to focus on having a good time with an amazing athletic, beautiful, strong woman who is certain to make this crazy-ass world called professional wrestling, her bitch.”
Isis is presented with her second drink for the night. She raises it in the air.
“I’ll drink to that.”
She nods, takes a couple of sips from her glass.
“I have to say, I am very glad that you ended up on Trauma. Not just because I can offer to take you out for a celebratory drink after your inevitable first victory either. You are right that we probably won’t find ourselves as opponents any time soon, but if we do in the future, I always like going against people I am sure will provide a challenge. I would probably have to break out some of those veteran tricks to beat you.”
He smirked as he took a sip of his drink, teasing her just a little bit.
“I promise if you do, I won’t join a cult. I like having you around.”
Isis winks.
“That’s all I ask.”
He laughed a bit and winked right back at her.
“I like having you around as well. In all seriousness, I know you are an incredible athlete and can no doubt do amazing jaw-dropping things inside the ring, but if you ever wanted to be taught some tricks and interesting holds by a fairly handsome Japanese man who has wrestled all over the World, I have a small gym with a ring. Right now an old friend uses it to train people Monday through Thursday, but it’s free every weekend.”
“I’ll take you up on that.”
Isis nods.
“Great, I’m looking forward to it. Maybe before that or after, we can go grab a bite to eat.”
He smirked and took a sip of his drink.
“Sounds good to me.”
Isis says taking another sip from her glass.
“Well then, it’s a date.”
He smiles and takes another sip of his drink.
“Although that does present a problem for tonight. Do I ask the usual first date questions now or wait for the official first date?”
Isis leans back in her chair. She cocks her head to the side.
“Whatever you want. I don’t mind.”
Minoru sits back and thinks for a few seconds, then nods and seems to have an idea.
“Well, our chosen profession actually affords us a unique opportunity. Someone works at a bank or even like a lawyer or doctor, you can guess why they chose it. Sometimes unique, not often. Pro wrestling though? No regular old person wakes up and decides to toss people around in a ring while other people watch them, all with the risk of getting kicked in the face or dropped on your ass. Crazy travel, crazier people. Every wrestler has a good, why are you doing this story. So I have got to know, why pro wrestling? You could do the modeling thing, try the pro sports thing just on athleticism alone. So why this path?”
Isis runs her hands through her hair.
“Being competitive is one of the few things that makes me feel alive. School bored the hell out of me. Gym class was the only thing I looked forward to. Running track. Playing basketball. On the court, I’m at home. On the field, there is no place I’d rather be. On my first day of wrestling training I knew. Every day I pushed myself.”
Isis smiles.
“I have no doubt this will work out. Someone needs to show the world the next stage in female evolution, right?”
Isis takes a sip from her glass.
“Absolutely.”
Minoru nods and takes a sip of his drink.
“I can definitely understand the thrill of competition thing, especially for someone who is incredibly athletic. There is something special about being inside the ring for sure. Anyone can step into a ring, but only certain people are meant to.”
“Like us.”
“Exactly.”
He smiles and raises his glass.
“To the start of your long and fruitful career.”
Isis nods.
“You know it. And to you teaching your former friend a lesson. ”
She raises her glass too.
“I will happily drink to that.”
They clink their glasses together and finish off their drinks.
“Round three and any questions for me?”
He looks to the Amazonian-Esque beauty with a smile before getting another drink for each of them.
“Why are you so welcoming to the new girl?”
Isis says brushing her hair to the side.
“Is it not part of the veteran handbook to put the young talent in their place? Or are you too distracted by all this...”
Isis motions to her Goddess like body
“... that you forgot whatever unwritten rules there are in the locker room. How many are there if there’s such a thing.”
Isis half smirks.
“Well, I have never been one for following rules, especially unwritten ones. Also, all of…”
Minoru motions towards her body and smiles.
“Is certainly distracting. I mean I liked what I saw of you and when you invited me out for a drink, well it gave me a nice excuse to try and flirt with the incredibly hot new girl. I see a confident sexy woman who knows exactly where she wants to go, so even if I thought you needed to be put in your place, I don’t know if I could.”
“No one can, don’t feel too bad.”
Isis lightly punches his arm.
“Ow”
He rubs the spot where she had punched him, then laughs a little bit before the next round of drinks arrives.
“I have to say, right now I feel pretty good. I am pretty sure every guy in this place and a few of the women are jealous of me right now.”
He smirks and winks before taking a sip of his drink. Isis scans the bar to see that it’s relatively clear. She hops up on the table, lays straight across. She motions for the bartender to come over. Pointing to her belly button the bartender understands what she wants. The bartender pours a little alcohol in her belly button. She is at an angle where she is looking at Minoru. She points to her belly button.
“Ever had a shot off someone's body before?”
“I have, but never a body like yours.”
Minoru smiled, stood up, looked around at everyone else in the bar, and smiled before he took the shot. He slurped up the liquor and ran his tongue over her stomach to get every last drop.
“Well, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”
He chuckled a little and offered Isis his hand to help her back down off the table. Isis reaches for her glass. She holds it up.
“To friendship.”
“To friendship.”
Minoru raises his glass and they clink them together before each takes a sip.
“I am really glad that you suggested getting a drink tonight. I needed a night out, and nothing beats a night out with an interesting, beautiful, amazing woman like you.”
“Glad I could be a distraction.”
Isis smiles
“A very welcome and wonderful distraction.”
Minoru returns the smile and takes another sip of his drink before their conversation continues.
