//::Whispers in the Dark...
The night was quiet yet Milisandre Crowthorne couldn’t sleep. She had tossed and turned since she had laid down. No matter what she did, she could not get comfortable. She rolled over and looked at the clock on the nightstand. She groaned lightly seeing it was just before three in the morning.
She swung her legs out of bed and stood with a sigh. She stood up and figured if she was awake she might as well check on little Howard Philip. She left her bedroom and walked down the hall. She quietly opened the door enough to poke her head in. She smiled as she watched her son sleeping peacefully in his crib.
She pulled her head out of his room and quietly closed the door. She made her way into their kitchen. She opened a cupboard and pulled out a glass. She figured if she was up, a drink might help her get some sleep. She opened the freezer and pulled out a bottle of whiskey. She poured some into her glass and tossed it back.
She stood there licking her lips and looking down her hallway. She exhaled slowly after taking the shot, her breath pluming out in front of her in a fog. She tilted her head slightly in curiosity. It wasn’t cold enough to allow her to see her breath.
That’s when she heard the whispers.
They started low and built until it was as if someone was standing behind her whispering to her. It was just gibberish at first. Like the fake whispers, you would do as a joke. As she tried to make out if there was anything to make out, she watched a figure come out of her hallway. It moved as if it was underwater, the simple dress it was wearing billowed and flowed oddly.
The whispers started to take form. They formed actual words. Milisandre was sure the figure in front of her was controlling them now.
“Do you know why we are here?”
Milisandre slowly nodded her agreement.
“Speak his name…”
Milisandre went to open her mouth to speak. She was stopped when the voice screamed in her head.
“NOT OUTLOUD! THINK IT!”
Milisandre nodded her head. She thought the name and swore she heard her own voice in the room.
“Cthulhu.”
“Correct. Do you know why he is making contact?”
Milisandre nodded.
“The time shall soon come. He will grant you some of his power. His herald must arrive appropriately.”
“I understand. I shall spread his message.”
The whispering suddenly took on a deeper tone.
“Perform admirably and you shall be rewarded. Remember, the time comes soon…”
Milisandre nodded and blinked her eyes. When she opened them she was just sitting the glass she took her shot in. The hallway was empty and the house was quiet. Milisandre exhaled but could not see her breath. She poured herself another drink and swallowed it in one shot. She rinsed her glass out and put the bottle back in the freezer. She made her way back into her bedroom. She crawled into bed next to her husband and promptly fell asleep.
