Arley Kirk Character Development piece:
"One sweet day"

Time: 7 AM, Saturday 1/11
Location: Lake Fenton, Michigan
We're met with the sound of hurried footsteps clattering along a hardwood floor as Arley Kirk thinks out loud..
Arley Kirk: Juice? Check. Stopwatch? Check. Raspberry twizzlers? Haha. Check. Check. My big furry running buddy? Where's mah PACster??
The first thing that Arley does every morning is ingrained and ritualistic. She simply must open up every single curtain, blind and window that she can before going for a jog through nearby woodlands with her Husky, PAC.
Arley Kirk: Hah! Good morning, slackers! Hey! Where's mah boiii? Up ya get, PAC-man!
This morning was no exception. Arley took a big gulp of her freshly squeezed juice as the shutters clattered and the venetian blinds opened up. Arley gave a shrill whistle to her companion as the harsh Michigan morning sun poured in across the hardwood floor. Super Tiger appeared, stretching and yawning and rubbing at her eyes under her mask.
Super Tiger: Noisy coyote quit howling! Geez what is wrong with you?
Arley Kirk: Tiggy-san!!!
At first the sun soaked in via cracks in the blinds, and then in a wide sweeping motion, the entire living room was illuminated as Arley fully raised them, Tiger groaning as she was nowhere near ready to be blinded like this! Arley beamed broadly as she moved in for hugs, but ST made it clear that she was not yet awake enough to handle the excitable blonde!
Super Tiger: Woah woah woah. Arley-san needs to find some chill!
Arley Kirk: Oops! My bad, Tig-Tig! Go back to bed hun, I'll try be shoosh!
Tiger nodded as she opened the door to her room yet shook her head and shut her door as Arley immediately returned to being loud..
Arley Kirk: PAC! Yo PAC! C'mon boy!
Arley raised an eyebrow as she opened the back door to let PAC out, yet he did not move from his basket. His eyes were open, but otherwise he wasn't going anywhere.
Arley Kirk: No..
Her heart sank to her knees. She knew it could happen any day, but not today!! Arley's eyes filled with tears and her voice trembled and broke as she made a beeline for his basket!
Arley Kirk: PAC! My boii! You're otay!! Come on, I know you're otay!!
Arley slid across the floor on her knees a little, immediately clutching PAC in a close hug. Arley began to weep uncontrollably when she pressed her ear to his side. She had noticed how slow his heart rate was, and how shallow his breathing..
Arley Kirk: Come on boy!! Let's go, we're going to the ve.."
She didn't get to finish. Seemingly with his last effort, PAC licked weakly at her face and then his shoulders slumped. Arley loudly burst into tears as she heard the final sigh, and this prompted Super Tiger to angrily storm out! The anger soon dissipated, ST stopping in her tracks. The scowl turned to a remorseful frown as she witnessed her partner cradling her recently deceased pet..
Super Tiger: Oh no, Arley-san!
This initial scene began to draw to a close with Tiger sweeping her seemingly inconsolable best friend into one of her patented, usually all-soothing Tiger hugs..
Super Tiger: I'm so sorry, Arley-san! Come on, Arley-san, no more suffering for PAC-san!
We fade to black on a bleary eyed Lash staggering out into the living room and immediately turning pale and breaking down upon realizing the situation..
"My fur baby"
When we return, the song "One sweet day" plays in the background during a short montage of family photos and footage. First we see a teenage Arley at the pound hunting for a puppy. It's hard not to smile watching Arley accidentally spilling her banana smoothie at her feet and a puppy PAC very cutely licking it up as everyone bursts into laughter. There are several shots of PAC being there by Arley's side during milestone moments in her life and way too many hours of quality footage of PAC and Arley goofing around to choose from. As the footage rolls, Arley's voice-over speaks..
Arley Kirk: A wise man once said to me that no matter where PAC is, he wouldn't ever want me to be sad. PAC would want me to remember all the good times. All of the fun we had. All of these moments that I'll cherish forever..
The song continued to play as the montage switched to a quick rundown of the beautiful afternoon ceremony held for PAC. We can see Arley, Super Tiger, Krystal Kirk, "Aunt MayMay" and Keiji Sugiwara joining hands and looking forlorn while a tearful Lash Donohue shovels the last of the dirt into the freshly dug hole and pats down the earth with the back of the shovel blade.
Arley Kirk (voice-over): "He also told me this. As long as I remember PAC, he is never truly gone. I'm going to hold onto that."
Ironically, the sky opened up and what was once a sunny afternoon became a storm. The scene closed out as everyone hurried to get inside, yet Arley stood in the rain, looking up to the sky. In the midst of a sudden heavy rainfall, Arley was smiling with a serenity which was uncharacteristic of her. Arley was stirred out of her thoughts and the scene closed out as her aunt yelled out to her from the kitchen..
Maybelle: C'mon inside, kiddo! C'mon AK, you'll freeze ya liddle tiddies off'n catch ya fuckin' death out there!
