What Type Of Contract Are You Seeking: Permanent
Entrance Theme: “The Signal Fire" by Killswitch Engage
Entrance Description:
With the sudden riff and opening shriek of Killswitch Engage’s “The Signal Fire” ripping through the PA system of the arena, the lights on the stage flicker violently, matching the tempo of the guitar and drums. The curtain parts and out steps Mai Blackman onto the stage with a look around at the audience. She has that cold, calculated demeanor on her face as she walks to the center and takes a moment to do a fighter’s bounce on her toes, loosening up. She throws a few air punches before yanking the towel off from around her neck and lets out a battle cry that exposes the black mouth guard over her upper teeth as she starts down the ramp, towards the ring.No more following this endless maze
Separation will define the new way
What's broken is what leads us all astray
The chosen are renewed in amnesty
Broken, hopeless, the state of all our fates
Revolted, woken, lead us from this place
Thea Crawford: Weighing in at 135 pounds, from Chicago, Illinois! MAI...BLACKMAN!!!
Mai approaches the ring with a sense of purpose and urgency. Her body language says she’s amped up but relaxed. Eager but focused. As she reaches the ring, she turns and makes her way right up the steps and gets in between the top and middle ropes.
Nowhere to hide, strength realigned
The signal fire's alight
Given to fight, there's hope just in sight
The signal fire's alight
Once she’s in the ring, Mai comes to the center, spreading her arms out as an open invitation to whatever the fans might have for her. Praise. Hate. Props. Insults. Whatever. Without so much as a hint of a change in her expression, she throws her towel into her designated corner and moves to it, turning back to the center of the ring as she hops on her toes, rolling her shoulders and getting ready.
Favorite type of match: Submission, Street Fight
Least favorite type of match: Handicap Matches
Favorite Weapon: Just those hands
Professional Wrestling Debut
Independent Circuit: N/A
Professionally: N/A
Finishing Moves:
- Blackman’s Bounty: Triangle Chokehold that she’ll pull off in any situation she can; even running and leaping at the opponent.
- The System: A Systema spinning back elbow strike directly to the face. At the very least, it opens them to a pin but Mai hopes it knocks them out. Mai uses this against the more discipline savvy opponents who know how to scout grapples. It’s harder to scout a quick, sudden strike when you get caught up exchanging shots back and forth.
Trademark/Signature Moves:
- Chicago Kiss: Quite simply a stiff headbutt but Mai tends to pull it off in almost any situation, even during pop-ups.
Used as a setup for either Systematic or Blackman’s Bounty. The headbutt stuns them, leaving them open.
- Modified Sitting Fujiwara Armbar: Basically, Becky Lynch’s Disarm-Her but Mai tucks the arm under her armpit, wraps tight and wrenches back to apply extra pressure.
Note: This is one of those instances the commentators would react with horror, commenting on the torque Mai is putting on and the angle of the arm.
Common Moves: (Minimum of 10. No more than 20.)
1. Single/Double Leg Takedown
2. Waistlock STO Takedown, Headstomp combo
3. Scissor Leg Takedown into a submission hold (Usually counters stomp attempts with this)
4. Peruvian Necktie
5. Ankle Pick from the Collar Tie Up
6. Wizard Kick (A counter throw when someone tries to take her back from a tie-up. Kicks her leg back and between the legs - not a low blow - and uses the initial force as she dips forward to flip them over her and onto their back)
7. Tai Otoshi (A hip toss used in Judo)
8. Rolling Kneebar
9. Arm Drags
10. Shoot Throw (You’ve all seen in UFC how they shoot in, pick them up around the waist and slam them down)
11. Kata Hajime/Sometimes turned into a suplex
12. Indian Deathlock
13. Inside/Outside Dragonscrew
14. Stiff punches and kicks based around Systema
15. Back Body Drop
16. Cradle DDT
17. Guillotine Choke
18. German Suplex Variations (Snap, Bridge, Deadlift, etc)
19. Krav Maga Strikes (Stiff punches, kicks, knees and elbows meant to wear the opponent down)
20. Flying Armbar (Usually used when her and her opponent are charging each other and they go for a lariat. She literally jumps and takes the arm.)
21. Saito Suplex
22. Belly to Belly Suplex
23. Scissorhold Headlock (Used to counter out of a pinfall cover after kicking out. She literally throws her legs up and catches their head. From there, she can hold that position or take an arm)
24. Rolling Wristlock (Counter out of a Rear Waistlock administered by her opponent)
25. Legsweep (Catches the kicking leg and sweeps the other leg out, knocking them on their face. Will usually hold the caught leg and go for a submission)
26. Gogoplata
27. Running Leg Scissors
28. Ground Mounted Punches/Forearms/Elbows
29. Grounded Knees to the ribs or shoulders, based on how she takes them down
30. Tomoe Nage (You could compare it to a sort of Monkey Flip. It’s used in Judo to quickly go to a ground mount)
In-Ring Strengths:
LEGIT FIGHTER: Among other styles, Mai is a practitioner of a martial arts known as Systema, sometimes referred to as The System. It is a Russian based martial art that she has trained in since she was an adolescent; taught to her by a friend of her father to assure she could defend herself growing up in their rough Chicago neighborhood. She will incorporate some of these techniques into her matches but it mostly shines when she is attacked with a weapon during a No DQ match or a brawl breaks out as a heavy section of Systema focuses on defending against armed opponents.
ENDURANCE: An important part of mastering Systema is building your endurance to beyond the average level. As a result of this, Mai can “go all day and then some.” She’ll break a sweat, she’ll start breathing heavy as normal, but it takes awhile to gas her out. You don’t start seeing exhaustion set in until she ends up in lengthy match types (2 out of 3 falls, Iron Man/Woman, Rumbles, etc). More often than not, her opponent will start slowing down before she will. This also means she can take a hit and bear it.
STRENGTH: For someone her weight, she can move opponents with ease within reasonable limits. Once she gets her arms around you, if you’re under 300lbs, there’s a good chance you’re going where she wants you. If necessary, she’ll use one’s own momentum against them if they’re on the heavier side.
In-Ring Flaws:
DEATH FROM ABOVE: Mai can go toe to toe with the best of them on foot. Her Achilles heel, however is aerial attacks both offensively and defensively. She’ll hit turnbuckle moves like your average wrestler but she absolutely will not take to the air in any other form. She also has very poor defense against the more aerial based wrestlers as none of her disciplines are built to defend against most moves. She can probably catch someone out of a flying into a clothesline into an armbar but if they come flipping at her with a Phoenix Splash or a Moonsault, she’s pretty much fucked.
SHE-HULK SMASH: While anger tends to help her press on when she’s reaching her physical limit, it can also be her bane as she becomes easily goaded. She might start ignoring the referee warnings more and can even be baited by her opponent into making a mistake and leaving herself open. There’s also the matter of her focus when it comes to her martial arts training. Martial arts requires focus. When you’re angry, you’re not focused. If you’re not focused, you get sloppy.
RUTHLESS AGGRESSION: The world of pro wrestling is mostly unfamiliar to Mai. She comes from a world where fighting meant actually fighting. This results in her sometimes getting overly aggressive with her opponents. She’s been used to fighting with no rules and now she’s in a world where rules matter. This may result in her ignoring the referee or going beyond the limits of what it takes to necessarily win a match. I.e: she may prefer to wanna knock her opponent out rather than pin them. She may hold a submission until after the bell, resulting in a decision swap at the referee’s discretion.
Wrestling Style: Mai mixes her professional wrestling training of the recent year with her previous multiple years of actual martial arts training. She combines technical submission and Strong Style wrestling with strikes from Muay Thai, and counters, takedowns and submissions taken from her study of Systema.
Wrestling Attire:
- Sports bra style top
- Form fitting wrestling pants
- Black boots with solid colored kickpads and kneepads
The top and pants always match in base color but vary from black (the most common) to sometimes being red, with varying designs on the top that give hints to her former occupation. Designs such as but not limited to chain and shackle patterns. She may even sport an outfit with a barbwire design as it is often used on prison fences. The pants bare matching designs to the top, however, the letters MB are always present down the length of her right leg.
Note: Still confused? Basically think of how her pic base dresses but instead of Spades and card symbols, it’s her initials and designs like chains, shackles and barbwire.

Biography:
Mai was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois to a Chinese mother and Native American father. Growing up, she always had a strong sense of right and wrong but her temper always got her into trouble. This resulted in fights at school as well as in her neighborhood with the real troublemakers. Fearing for their daughter’s safety, Mai’s father enlisted her into martial arts training in order to defend herself when she was out in their rough neighborhood. Mai took to the training like a horse to water and became enthralled with the thrill of competition. At high school age, she entered a junior girl’s MMA league, becoming the recipient of several awards and championships in multiple categories.
When she was still in high school, she signed up for the Delayed Enlistment Program. Upon graduation, she enlisted into the Marines. Mai graduated with Honors at the top of her Company and went on to serve ten years as 0300 Infantry. Being a female in a predominantly male MOS meant Mai had to work harder to gain the respect of her peers but she did just that through display of her no quit attitude and her determination to do her best. While active duty, Mai studied law in hopes of doing something in the field after her military time. She never got her degree as she set it aside when she took an honorable discharge from the Marines to help take care of her ailing father. She was 28 at the time. For income, Mai used her knowledge and resources to take up a job as a bounty hunter, putting together a small team of some of her military buddies. They also opened their own bail bonds office to draw in even more income. They started their own YouTube channel and ran a series called The Blackman Files where they documented their jobs through go-pro cams. The concept became so popular that famous celebrity and musician, Janet Jacobs funded and sponsored it to help it reach a wider audience. The show ran for three seasons during which, Mai and Janet formed a close friendship
Due to her team’s training background, they were often the primary ones to be called on for suspects/bounties that could have been particularly dangerous. This often turned out to be true as Mai’s team often found themselves dealing with suspects that had violent histories and multiple hits on their records (nothing too risky, just along the lines of aggravated assault, domestic violence, and suspected small gang activity.) Mai’s team often successfully captured their targets but were the subject of numerous complaints of excessive force being used, namely by Mai herself. Mai received notices of complaints that she was too violent with suspects her team was sent to apprehend. Mai received several warnings and even ended up going to court for a couple cases. Everything came crashing down, however, when Mai’s team was called upon to apprehend a violent suspect who failed to show up to court. In the chaos that ensued from their attempts to apprehend him in his neighborhood, a rookie member of Mai’s team that she had become fond of was badly injured. This set Mai’s temper off and she finally apprehended the suspect herself but ended up beating him severely within an inch of his life. The judge that oversaw the case understood Mai’s personal bond with her team members, therefore he let her off with a year’s probation, however her license to be a bounty hunter was also revoked and she was left without a job.
She moved back in with her mother and got a job at a local wrestling gym while she considered finishing her law degree but after a couple of months, Mai observed the students training at the gym and saw that wrestling wasn’t just about showboating and body slamming people anymore. She saw many techniques being used that she knew from her years of training in martial arts. She always liked wrestling as a form of entertainment but never thought about doing it. With some insistence from Janet Jacobs, Mai decided to sign up at the school to learn the other side of professional combat sports. After two years of dedicating her mind, body and soul to her training, as she had done everything else, Mai began wrestling on the Chicago independent circuit, waiting to get her break in the big leagues. She wasn’t as young as most wrestlers were starting out so she knew she didn’t have long to make herself stand out. At 34 years old, she needed to make every moment count. With Janet Jacobs as her friend and manager, Mai Blackman is ready to bring her technique and ruthlessness to the ring.
Mai had a fairly impressive run as one half of the tag team Martial Law with Johanna Krieger under Janet's management. However, methods used by the tag team to get their message across, in Mai's eyes, began to challenge her personal morals. Quickly beginning to lose herself, Mai outright abandoned Martial Law to set out on a new path where she now learns more of the wrestling trade from Japanese wrestler, Dokueki, "The Poison Dragon."
