Post by Steven Brody, CEO on Aug 31, 2019 15:57:27 GMT -8
The show opens with a slow fade in of a photo of the late Vlad Blackheart as the intro to “See You Again” by Charlie Puth begins. The song continues on as vintage highlights of Vlad's career are shown in chronological order. From the beginning of his career including his start in the indies to his numerous moments that took place within NFW. Everything from his "Easy V" days to his equally memorable days as the darker Vlad The Impaler. As the highlights continue, we hear Commissioner Steven Brody in voice over only....
"On May 5th, 2016...the wrestling world said goodbye to a legend...and dear friend…."
As Brody's voice says this, the vignette shows a brief clip of the news broadcast - "Pro Wrestler Among Several Deaths In Tragic Plane Crash."
The video resumes the highlights of Vlad's career and life, this time, through photographs taken both from personal family members as well as NFW staff. Images of him hoisting various titles over head, locked up and/or facing off against his most memorable opponents. Images are seen of him with the likes of Big Daddy Payne and Judas Lasher, both in their younger days. Brody's voiceover continues....
"He was an icon...and an inspiration to all around him...."
The focus of the memorial video switches to more personal moments of Vlad's life, such as photos from his wedding to Lara Chastain, to holding their newborn daughter with a natural, beaming smile on his face.
"A devoted husband...and a loving father...."
Images continue to chronologize Vlad's years as he moved from wrestling to passing on his knowledge. One shot is shown of him carrying a much younger Rick Dickulous (probably about 4 years old) on his back with a goofy smile aimed at the camera. Another shot is shown of him, kneeling down in the training ring of The House Of Payne’s Pittsburgh gym, in the middle of what looks to have been a sit down lesson with teenagers Lara Blackheart, Marissa and Morgan Payne, Nico and Adrianna Salvatore all sitting intently and listening to him. Vlad is depicted in the image with his finger up to his temple as if he’s in the middle of giving them a lesson. Finally, the couple of images show him in the ring of an independent venue, lifting Lara off of the mat in an emotional hug, followed by one that was taken moments later of Vlad proudly raising her arm in the air after she won her first match. Finally comes one final image:
"While it is with a heavy heart, that we say goodbye to our beloved friend, Vlad Blackheart, it is with tremendous respect...that we honor his memory...and legacy...."
As Brody is heard saying this, the previously mentioned image slowly fades out as the opening chords of Saliva’s “Ladies and Gentlemen” are heard. In a more, upbeat, uplifting video, the stylized logo made explodes onto the screen.

“TWENTY WOMEN WILL BATTLE IT IN A ROUND ROBIN TOURNAMENT TO SEE WHO IS THE QUEEN OF THE FRONTIER!!!”

[JUDAS LASHER V. ANTON CROWLEY]
Judas Lasher and Anton Crowley came out to start the night’s action for A Block on the men’s side and this match got the fans pumped up and ready for the action that was going to follow for the rest of the night. The two men came out swinging, but Judas was quick to show just why he was the World Champion. Judas took control early in this match bringing the fight to the House Crowley member. Judas dominated the early portion of this match, but Anton turned things around when he countered out of a DDT attempt by Judas by hitting a Northern Lights Suplex. Anton pushed his advantage, showing that he meant business and that he was looking to knock off the World Champion and possibly find himself in line for a title opportunity somewhere in the near future. Anton hit The Fall for a very close near fall, but when he went for Ad Stellam Matutinam, Judas popped up and hit Lucifer’s Halo out of nowhere and picked up the victory.
Winner: Judas Lasher
Result: Pinfall

[MAX LEBRUN V. GRIFFIN HAWKINS]
Our next match saw Max Lebrun take on the newest signee to the NFW Roster in Griffin Hawkins. The rockstar superstar had the crowd firmly behind him from the time he came out to the ring for his first match in the tournament. The two men really put on a great match here and the crowd loved every second of it. Max took advantage early with his striking ability and anytime Griffin seemed to try and get back into it, Max would deliver a strike. Once Max was firmly in control, he showed off his other offensive maneuvers. At one point, Max got a near fall after hitting Griffin with an Assai moonsault. He kept pushing his advantage and Griffin did manage to counter and send Max into the corner, but when Griffin charged in, Max was able to hit the Wall Check and get another close call to finishing the match. Max would call for the end of the match, but when he went for the Aneurysm, Griffin was able to get out of the hold and counter it with a back drop. Griffin would do his best to push the advantage and delivered a beautiful bridging German Suplex for a near fall. Griffin went for a superkick and Max was able to duck under it and this time, he picked the rockstar up and hit the Aneurysm and picked up the victory.
Winner: Max LeBrun
Result: Pinfall

[EDDY POE V. ASHE CORVIN]
We had Eddy Poe and Ashe Corvin stepping into the ring next and got their tournament started against one another. This match wasn’t a technical clinic by any means as Eddie Poe came out swinging, looking to make the early statement to the rest of A Block. He took on Ashe and just started to lay the beat down on him. Eddie just asserted dominance and delivered some devastating power moves. He hit a buckle bomb and followed it up with a big boot and got himself a two count. Eddie tried to hit Final Friday, but Ashe was able to wiggle out of the grasp of Eddie and deliver a neckbreaker. Ashe battled back for a little bit, when he tried to send Eddie into the ropes, he was reversed and then hit with a Blackhole Slam that gave Eddie a two count. Eddie would finish off the match though by picking Ashe up and delivering Enter the Bad Place and getting the victory.
Winner: Eddy Poe
Result: Pinfall

[TYLER GREY V. KEIJI SUGIWARA]
Next was Tyler Grey and Keji Sugiwara face off. Tyler clearly had a look like he was ready to kill after some of the recent events and Keji just so happened to be the one that was going to feel his wrath. Keji got a flurry of offense in early, but that was about it for him. He would deliver the Yakuza kick and follow up with an Osaka Cutter for a near fall, but that was about it for him. Tyler got back up countered a brainbuster attempt. Tyler began using his speed and quickness to keep Keji off guard, delivering a clothesline that sent the Japanese star out of the ring before delivering a tope con hilo. Tyler would pick Keji up and roll him back into the ring and just grabbed Keji by the wrists and started to stomp away on the man’s face. Tyler seemed to have just finally snapped as he continued before the ref called for the bell and stopped the match and awarded the victory to Tyler Grey.
Winner: Tyler Grey
Result: Ref stoppage
Time: 9:04

[SCOTT LEROUX V. RICK DICKULOUS]
The final match for day one of A Block saw Rick Dickulus taking on Scott Lereux. This match lived up to the fact that it was the main event for the men as both of these men absolutely stole the show. They went back and forth, showing the crowd just how great they were and especially Rick showing just how far he had come from last year’s tournament. Finally after five minutes of back and forth action, Rick finally got the advantage. Rick used his size and strength and started to throw Scott around a little bit. Rick used his Krav Maga skills to keep Scott off guard for quite a bit and delivering a few well timed suplexes and throws. Rick would go for Timber, but Scott was able to counter out of the move and take Rick down with a chop block. Scott took over the match and started to put the offense to Rick. Scott thought he had the match won when he delivered an amazing Satellite DDT before locking in a Dragon Sleeper. The ref checked on Rick as it started to look like he was going to fade, but once the ref checked a third, Rick was able to rally back and get to his feet before hitting the Log Jam and then following up with the Misery Whip and picking up the win.
Winner: Rick Dickulous
Result: Pinfall

[KENNEDY CAMPBELL V. LLUVIA CANE]
[KENNEDY CAMPBELL V. LLUVIA CANE]
The first match in A Block for the Queen of the Frontier Tournament was definitely one that got the crowd excited and ready for more. Kennedy Campbell and Lluvia Cane put on one hell of a show for the crowd. Both women brought their best and it showed. Lluvia though was first to take the fight to her opponent, almost to the point of domination. Lluvia showed off her veteran status with each minute that passed, but Kennedy showed that no matter what the Cherokee Princess of The Kingdom did, she wouldn’t go down. Lluvia hit big move after big move, even hitting Truth and Grief for a very near fall that saw Kennedy get her shoulder up just before the ref hit gave the three count. Lluvia went for Angelic Rebellion, but Kennedy was able to duck under it and get herself on the offensive. She started to use her speed and quickness to keep Lluvia off guard and get Lluvia on the ropes. Kennedy delivered a standing shooting star press for a near fall before grabbing Lluvia and sending her into the corner and delivering a splash followed up by a cannonball senton. The end of the match would come with Kennedy climbing to the top rope and delivering a corkscrew moonsault and picking up the three count.
Winner: Kennedy Campbell

[LARA BLACKHEART V. DONA ROTTEN]
[LARA BLACKHEART V. DONA ROTTEN]
Lara and Dona put on a great match for their opening match to the tournament. The action was back and forth with nobody really getting a leg up for a majority of it. Both women countered each other’s finishers early and it seemed to be a stalemate. Lara broke out of it though after she delivered her signature Rock Bottom and got herself a near fall. Lara kept up the pressure on Dona hitting a DDT that forced Dona to roll to the floor to try and catch a breather. Lara tried to hit a suicide dive, but Dona was able to stop it by hitting a forearm as Lara was coming through the ropes. Dona took the fight to Lara on the outside of the ring, utilizing the ref’s count before throwing the former Women’s Champion back in. Dona continued her offensive onslaught on Lara by hitting the Chainsaw Kick which saw her get a near fall. Lara would attempt to fight back, but it seemed like Dona was going to be too much for her. She picked the former champion up and looked to deliver the Punk-plex, but Lara was able to wiggle out into a sunset flip for a near fall. Dona would try to end the match by locking in a Dragon Sleeper after the counter to her finishing move, but Lara would escape with well placed knees to the head. While Dona was disoriented, Lara would grab her and deliver Coma White and picking up the victory.
Winner: Lara Blackheart
Result: Pinfall

[SATIVA NEVAEH V. RIVER CHANCE]
[SATIVA NEVAEH V. RIVER CHANCE]
Sativa and River came out for their first match and both looked ultra focused, but Sativa was first to talk a little trash before the bell rang by getting up into River’s face and holding her Women’s Championship in River’s face. Once the bell finally rang though, River showed off her power on the Women’s Champion. She would toss Sativa all over the ring, hitting power move after power move early on, but Sativa would weather the storm and show off her resilience. Sativa would eventually start using her speed and quickness to get the advantage on River. The match saw Sativa delivering a clothesline that sent River to the floor and then she followed that up with a Tope Suicida before throwing River into the ring and getting a near fall. Sativa would look to keep the offense going before she was just met with a discus clothesline that sent Sativa inside out and then hit a gorilla press slam and getting another near fall. River would try to hit a delayed vertical suplex, but Sativa would land on her feet and when River turned around, Sativa would hit Got ‘Em before climbing to the top rope and hitting the Sonic Screwdriver to pick up the win.
Winner: Sativa Nevaeh
Result: Pinfall
Time: 24:18

[CHERRY ADDAMS V. LILITH MEADOWS]
[CHERRY ADDAMS V. LILITH MEADOWS]
Cherry and Lilith were in the ring for their first match and The Dark Faerie looked a little out of place without her partner down at ringside for her in this. Lilith did her best in this match, but it was clear that she wasn’t in her element. Cherry pretty much dominated this match against Lilith. Cherry used her size advantage and just didn’t allow Lilith to get much offense in at all. Cherry used suplex after suplex to try and put The Faerie of The Kingdom away, but Lilith wouldn’t stay down. Lilith eventually found an opening and started to work on the arms of Cherry, trying to break down the body part. Lilith eventually did lock in a Fujiwara armbar, but Cherry was able to get out and after that little flurry of offense, Lilith wouldn’t get anything else in. Cherry took back over the match and just dominated Lilith once again. Cherry would eventually grab Lilith and deliver a hammerlock DDT and pick up the victory.
Winner: Cherry Addams
Result: Pinfall

[ADRIANNA SALVATORE V. SAMANTHA TOLSON]
[ADRIANNA SALVATORE V. SAMANTHA TOLSON]
The final match of A Block for the women saw Adrianna Salvatore take on Samantha Tolson. To say this was one to be considered the match of the night would be an understatement. These two women would absolutely blow the roof off of the building. These two women fought back and forth for the entire match. Tolson would get the advantage first and begin putting on a suplex clinic on Adrianna and got a couple of near falls on The Queen of Anarchy. Samantha tried to deliver a pumphandle front suplex, but Adriana was able to counter out of it and lay in a few hard forearm shots. Adrianna used her striking to get the advantage back in her favor. She would deliver a rolling forearm after sending Samantha into the ropes and then following it up with a series of Hell’s Bells knee strikes. It looked like Samantha was down for the count, but she kicked out of a pin at the very last moment. Adrianna though didn’t show any frustration and just picked Samantha up and hit the Ground Zero and picking up the victory.
Winner: Adrianna Salvatore
Result: Pinfall
Time: 28:37
