Chapter 22
Distorted Reflections
Location: Somewhere in Wyoming
Date: June 15th

When the door leading into the first of the adjoining rooms opened all eyes fell on the blonde that walked out. She was beautiful, staggeringly so with platinum blonde hair and the most exquisite Nordic-style features. She hadn’t always looked like this…or at least those here didn’t remember her looking like this.
And of all of them, Ashley Kenyon would know. Considering they shared a locker room in the football league.
She wore a one-piece dress tied around the back of her neck and her hair laid flat down her bare shoulders. No one in the room paid her any attention as she stepped inside, tho Ashley did look beyond her at the room through the opened door.
The large tattooed man was sitting on the edge of the bed covered at the waist by the thick blanket. He ran his hands down his face and let out a deep steadying breath before pushing the blankets off, pulling on a pair of blue jeans, and rising to his full towering height.
As she watched him she thought back on the events of May 18th.

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Date: May 18th
Time: 4:45 AM
It had been nearly 36 hours since the Raleigh police had left the scene with Dean and the rest of the group gathered across the street from the two-story building attached to the courthouse. Hana and Silk each held large umbrellas to shield the group from the summer rain that fell hard all around them.
“Are the rumors true?” The blonde woman standing beside Michael asked, looking over at the group.
For a moment everyone seemed to hesitate before Ashley answered Danika.
“From what we are being told? Yes.” Ashley told her. “A group of Demons attacked a couple of cops outside the station and after being placed into booking they attacked him.”
Danika sucked in a deep breath with a concerned look spreading across her youthful new face.
“They get it on camera?”
“Of course not.” Michael snapped. “I have been doing this awhile Danielle.”
“Cops managed to break it up and get everyone separated before they could do too much damage to It.” Ashley continued. “I hate to imagine what would have happened had it gone too far and it got too far out of control.”
“We have larger issues.”
A voice from a woman walking toward them informed them. The woman was in her late forties with long ringlet curled brown hair. She held a delicate-looking umbrella in one hand and a little clutch purse in the other. Expensive black heels clicked off the concrete as she walked with what could only be described as a modern-day Southern Belle party dress swaying around her hips as she moved.
Danielle looked over and her eyebrow went up. How many years had it been since she had seen this woman? Eight? Nine?
“Veronica,” Danielle said with a smile.
The smile on the older woman’s face seemed to falter as she met the blonde's eyes, but her pace didn’t slow.
“Don’t think I’ll ever get used to that.” The woman told Danika. “The new face.”
“It’s a whole new world,” Michael said flatly. “So, what’s the problem?”
Veronica took a deep breath and turned her gaze across the street where people were coming and going from the large courthouse/jail building. For a moment none of them saw anything out of the ordinary until one of the women that seemed to be standing waiting for someone began to stand out.
She was tall with long flowing beautiful blonde hair worn in a pair of Nordic braids. She was slim but shapely with a thick backside and respectable bust. A beautiful Viking-style face with full lips and beautiful eyes.
Danielle’s eyes widened and her face went pale.
“What is she doing here?!” Danika whispered in horror. “How did she even find out he was alive?! She moved on!”
“Who?” Michael demanded and looked over and her mouth opened in shock. “Je…”
“No.” Veronica corrected before Michael could even get the woman’s name out. “She is safely elsewhere. Very blissfully unaware of any of this weirdness. That…” The woman motioned to the blonde woman standing across the street. “Is the only thing keeping my client in custody. Her sworn statement about the death of Stephen Rossi is the only actual crime they can link him to.”
“Peyton?!” Ashley demanded and her eyes shot across the street. “That’s fuckin Peyton!? She’s put on weight.”
“In all the right places.” Maiko seconded getting an eye-roll from Ashley.
“Didn’t she recant?” Ashley asked.
“Not yet.” Veronica answered sourly. “I have her recanting statement but she refuses to sign off on it until she gets a one-on-one meeting with him. She wants to discuss something about Stephen no doubt.”
“And how do you intend to get her this one-on-one meeting?” Michael asked.
“Simple.” Veronica pulled out a business card with her name on it and then another with Peyton’s name and ‘Para-Legal.’ “I claim I have to take a call about something and leave her in the interrogation room with him.”
“You can’t be serious?!” Ashley demanded. “You shouldn’t trust that bitch as far as you can throw her.”
“No choice if I want him to walk out the door,” Veronica said sourly again and began across the street.
The group stood and waited as the morning turned into the early afternoon and around two o'clock that afternoon Veronica walked out with the giant man walking beside her. Their eyes were pulled collectively to the little blonde woman who walked beside him….with his arm around her shoulder.
Veronica shot a look across the street to the group telling them that she had no idea what the hell was happening as she veered off heading away from them. The hulking figure and Peyton crossed the street under the staring glares of everyone there.
Michael looked from Dean to Peyton and then back to Dean.
“Explain?”
“Dani was wrong.” Dean said happily. “She hadn’t given up yet. She heard I was in trouble and came immediately to be by my side.”
“She….” Ashley gave the same back-and-forth look between the pair. “The fuck are you talking about?”
Peyton flashed Ashley a wide smile.
“I think we can discuss that later.” She told her. “We should get off the street.”
“We’re not going anywhere with you.” Ashley snapped. “Do I need to smack you upside the head again?”
A growl suddenly emitted from the hulking figure and Ashley’s eyes shot to him in shock. She knew that sound.
It was a warning.
“We need to go.” The creature said in that gravely broken voice. “She comes with. Fate pulled us apart once and I will not be separated from her again.”
All of them stood at a loss for words. The shock washed over them as Dean and Peyton began to walk away. Shadow and Silk fell in with them with Michael and Hana blinking as Michael limbed along behind.
Ashley looked over at Danielle and found her staring at The Sin's back slack-jawed.
“What just happened?” Danielle whispered.
Ashley looked from Danika to the group walking away.
“...Nothing good.”
She motioned with her head for Dani and Twoey to follow and the group started off.
As far as Dean was concerned, this is the way it’s supposed to be….this is the way that he says that it’s gonna be.

Ashley’s focus was broken by a hand on her shoulder and she glanced over to find the youthful face of Danielle Bay looking down at her. Her gaze went from the hand to the woman and then back to the hand and Danika withdrew it. She motioned with her head to the other side of the room.
“You figured out what is happening here?” Danika asked as Ashley joined her near the motel window.
Ashley glanced back at the group and the blonde woman standing near the motel mirror fluffing her hair.
“I have no fucking idea.” She answered softly. “I know I don’t like it. Something about it feels…off.”
“Hana says she spent the entire drive here asking questions about the ex-wife.” Danika told her.
Ashley’s head shot over to look back at Danielle.
“The hell for?” Ashley demanded. “Why would she even care?!”
“I don’t know….and that scares me.”
Ashley took a moment to look over the face of the woman who had once been one of her greatest enemies, and she found at that moment, that she recognized every little of the old Danika in it.
“When is Twoey due back?”
Ashley took a full lip between her teeth and glanced toward the door.
“Tomorrow,” Ashley answered. “Maybe the day after.”
Danielle gave a little nod and glanced at Michael as he rose from where he had been sitting on the bed beside Hana to meet the towering form of The Sins as he walked into the room pulling a tank top over his head and down his torso.
“Listen up…” Michael began. “We had a talk last night.”
He motioned to Dean standing behind Peyton with one arm over her shoulder.
“We have the Sarcophagus back but they are going to come for it. Lucifer knows how dangerous it is and there is no way he doesn’t do anything about us having it. We discussed it and concluded that the only safe place for it is to keep it moving.”
Michael, leaning heavily on the white oak cane crossed the room and pulled back the curtain where a large truck and trailer. Ashley let out a little impressed whistle at the beautiful gleaming machine.
“Where you get that?”
Michael looked over at Silk who flashed the group a smile.
“She made a call to Alejandra,” Michael explained. “After what happened during that meeting this is as far as they are willing to go….but I appreciate all the help we can get. We keep it on the move. Silk, Shadow, and a group of the reformed Demons, interchanging drivers every six hours.”
“Can we afford that?” Danielle asked looking sharply at the man leaning on the cane. “The fuel cost alone is going to break us, Michael.”
“Do we have a choice?” Michael responded flatly. “Keeping this thing out of his hands is all that matters now.”
Behind them the towering tattooed man pulled the mask of snake scales over his face and that watching saw the change in every aspect of him. From the look in his eyes changing from a gentle look to one of pure indifference to the body language and posture becoming tighter, more feral.
“Let’s go…we got miles to cover.”
The group parted and allowed the huge creature to pass between them until the heavy boots hit the concrete of the hallway outside the door. The Demons followed out behind followed by Shadow and Silk with Silk's arm around Shadow’s shoulders.
Hana, Michael and Danielle left next, Hana holding a duffle bag over her shoulder for Michael. Peyton was one of the last to walk out, the sound of her heels clicking off the concrete as she stepped into the hallway with Ashley walking out behind her.
“I don’t know what you’re planning?” Ashley whispered as she stepped up in line beside Peyton. “But I’ll be right here to stop it.”
Peyton glanced over with a little sinister smile.
“I wouldn’t get involved in this if I were you.”
“Oh? What are you gonna do? Kill me?” Ashley taunted.
“No….” Peyton then stopped at the top of the stairs and looked over at Ashley. “....But my husband might.”

Location: The Bronx
Date: June 25th
Time: 9:45 AM
For anyone else a walk through Highbridge didn’t come without risks. Especially for someone who seemed as out of place as the thick blonde woman who descended the stairs of one of the larger complexes that had been converted into a living space for a single group of people.
The crew that ran this part of The Bronx, The Hit Squad.
Dressed in a pair of skin-tight blue jeans, a top that showed off her mid-drift, and a pair of white cowboy boots the woman stood out like a sore thumb as she stepped onto the street with people who couldn’t be dressed any more differently if they tried.
But no one seemed to give the woman any grief. As she came down the stairs a pair of kids, twin girls with tight braided pigtails looked up and flashed her wide grins.
“Hey ‘Manda!” The girls shouted.
“Hey!” Amanda greeted them with a crooked grin. “Destiny, tell your mom thanks for bringing the boys something to eat last night.”
“OKAY!” One of the little girls shouted with a giggle and Amanda flashed her a wink.
Amanda walked half a block and began across the street just as a car turned the corner. The car laid on its horn and Amanda motioned behind her at the street.
“Hold your damn horses.” The girl shouted.
A dark-skinned man wearing a hat low on his brow leaned out the window.
“Get yo fine ass out the road Stafford.” He shouted. “Don’t make me get out of this car.”
“You wouldn’t know what to do with it even if you did.” She shouted back with a smirk.
The man’s eyes widened as if to say “It’s like that?!” but he laughed and disappeared back in the window and passed as she crossed to the other side of the street. She walked down a block and then around the corner where she came to what appeared to be a large vacant graffiti-covered warehouse.
Another group of women made up of various ethnic backgrounds sat near a closed door of the warehouse. One of the women, a dirty blonde wearing a pair of track pants and a half top wearing ground cute little glasses jumped off the stair she had been sitting on.
“Took you so long?” The woman asked.
“We’ve been gone two weeks at training camps Riley.” Amanda told the woman and blushed a bit. “I wanted to take his breath away.”
Riley let out a little giggling laugh and reached back to slap Amanda on the backside, which shook a little from the smack.
“Girl, just walk in and let him grab that thang and he’ll be the happiest brotha in the world.” Riley then let out a sigh and looked back at herself. “I’d kill to have your ass girl.”
Amanda let out a happy laugh and threw her arm around Riley’s shoulder as the girls walked into the warehouse leaving the lookouts sitting outside. The two women were like sister wives. Best friends. Sisters.
The inside of the warehouse was much smaller than it appeared from the outside with another door on the far end. As the two women neared the door they started to hear the bumping music from the other side….which turned nearly deafening as the door opened.
The whole back end of the warehouse was soundproof.
Half a dozen men were working all around the room. Some of them were overseeing the packaging and bagging of product to get out to the soldiers on the streets. Tho, it was only green in the packages now.
Amanda and Riley had put their foot down early on about selling anything else. Occasionally some E, but that was it. None of the harder shit. They wouldn’t put that into the hands of the children of the neighborhood and neither would their men.
On the far end of the warehouse sat half a dozen cars, all of them sports cars or expensive imports getting ready for export.
The girls spotted their men in the crowd. It wasn’t hard after all with the two of them being among the four towering giants in the room. Cronos looked over first and his eyes lit up when he saw Riley.
“YURRR!”
Cronos shouted and Riley let out a happy squeal and took off running. She hit Cronos at full force but didn’t even move the mant. Tiny legs wrapped around his torso as her arms went around his shoulders and the two began to kiss passionately
The man standing next to him smirked and shook his head, dreadlocks gently swaying around his face. And then he saw Amanda and that smirk turned into a look of disbelief and desire as he took in the figure of the little country girl.
He crossed the room to her in four big steps and gripped her by the hips with two big hands lifting her up into a kiss that seemed to be more passionate than the one being shared by Riley and Cronos.
After breaking the kiss Atlas set the woman down on the floor while behind him Cronos held Riley up as the two were talking in whispers to one another, with Riley giggling and nodding.
“How long you two back?” Atlas asked.
“A week or so.” Amanda answered. “At least for me. She may be different.”
Amanda motioned to the half dozen cars sitting behind the group being worked on.
“New?”
Atlas gave a little nod and glanced back over his shoulder.
“Sven gave an order for a dozen but we’re having some trouble locating the other half.”
Amanda just nodded and took her lip between her teeth. She wasn’t truly happy with his line of work, but she learned a long time ago that she needed to accept the man with all his faults. At least these didn’t bounce off her cheekbones….
“You’re gonna need a way to move them.” Amanda mused.
“...We were just discussing that.”
Atlas glanced back at Cronos. The shorter but thicker man at this point wasn’t paying him any attention. He held Riley by the thighs as the two continued to whisper to one another. Riley had a little grin on the corners of her mouth and was nodding as Atlas cleared his throat only to get ignored again.
Ultimately Atlas reached down and grabbed one of the lug nuts from one of the broken-down cars and tossed it at Cronos. The metal bounced off his flex bicep as he held up Riley causing him to look over.
“What, bitch?!” He demanded.
“You got a plan to move this shit?” Atlas asked motioning to the cars.
“Does it look like I got a plan for that?” Cronos snapped. “Matter of fact?! You figure this shit out.”
Cronos then carried a laughing Riley toward the stairs leading upstairs leaving Atlas shouting curses after him. That is until Amanda leaned up behind him, placed her hands on his lower back, and whispered in his ear.
Atlas’s gaze shifted back to her quickly and his eyebrow went up.
“For real?”
“Mmhmm.” Amanda answered with a grin and nod.
“Fuck this.” Atlas shouted and turned, grabbing Amanda by the thighs and throwing her up over his right shoulder as the thick girl let out a giggling squeal. “Go out and find us a big truck.”
Atlas got to the stairs and then turned to look at the group of laughing men adding.
“I don’t need to say don’t rent the truck right?” He asked. “No paper trail. Jack one from the oasis.”
The boys all shouted that they knew that and that the Titans should go and enjoy their reunion with their women. They all knew the truth behind the scene which had played out in the stashhouse.
Trey and Lawrence?
They were simply happier men when Riley and Amanda were home.
“Where’s there’s rock and roll, I lock and load. Shut em down, open up shop…Oh no….”
