This was a conversation that was a long time coming. Both Lyall “Lyric” Allen and Alex “Bullet” Carbajal had watched their fellow Charter President, Olive Eavan “Sykobitty” Maloney, run off at the mouth and cause problems that could have been avoided if they had only given ehr certain information. Many times, she jumped to conclusions based on missing , incomplete or simply no information and it was not her fault.
Now it was time to fix that problem as best they could.
As the three sit around a table, Lyric welcomes them both to her place with a look.
Lyall "Lyric" Allen: We’re ready.
Eavan crosses her arms.
Eavan "Sykobitty" Maloney: If yous say so.
Bullet nods to Lyric.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: You got the permissions from Wid and Shanna?
Lyric nods and Bullet turns to face Sykobitty.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: You know how we all went into wrestling in 2018 and then there was the problem in Mile High and we bounced between companies before we ended up in EWC as a group in 2019 until several left?
Eavan just stares at them unmoved.
Eavan "Sykobitty" Maloney: Yeah, what of it?
Bullet nods slowly.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: Marchand had shown up in summer 2018. A year later, we got word that Marchand thought he had found something that would do to us what he’d done in Tampa to Angel’s old club, the Devil’s Minions. Angel was the President and is the only one left. He wiped them all out and there were auxiliaries who ended up collateral damage. In all, twenty-two casualties, plus children left with one or no parents. A few days later we were told what he thought he’d found. He’d found what he thought was a connection to the cartel in Mexico, which upset the cartel in Colombia. He thought he had the key to starting a war between them but he did not have the witnesses he needed, but what he had found implicated Mamá Robi, Widow and Lyric.
Lyric quickly takes over momentarily.
Lyall "Lyric" Allen: The three of us talked because of what he had not found. He had not really found a connection to the cartels, he had found one of my old drug dealers and a drug buddy that was about to be in trouble for possession with intent. Robi and Widow were worried about him finding a connection to the Black Hand and Druscilla because he had not found that yet at all.
Eavan frowns.
Eavan "Sykobitty" Maloney: The what?
Lyall "Lyric" Allen: The Black Hand… it’s...
Bullet nods as Lyric looks to her for help in describing the organization.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: It’s like Murder, Inc… only bigger than just New York City.
Lyric leans in, ready to go now.
Lyall "Lyric" Allen: At the time, we were a smaller club, but the Black Hand was sort of a consortium for contracts with very few in the know about. Robi, Wid, and Druscilla had a network to help facilitate things. Eventually that became a problem in New York City for Dru with some Gambinos. Robi thought if Marchand found that, he would think he could get more than just a lowly MC in New Orleans, but he could go after at least one of the Five Families. So we read Ale in, because we hadn’t before and she’s better at planning than most, and we came up with the idea of making her the President. Expansion was starting so Widow would go to start a charter in London, away from Marchand’s eyes. I would go off managing my boyfriend at the time and Robi would go to Europe as well.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: That worked fine for six months. Marchand was not looking at Wid anymore as it would take too much to get at her from across the ocean, too much cross jurisdictional bullshit for him. Lyric appeared to be out, more or less. Now, he could focus on Robi and Angel because Robi was supposed to come back.
She sighs heavily.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: We had expanded into Mount Diablo, Kill Devil Hills, Dallas, Savannah and London but Marchand was still focusing here because he thought he could get Robi and there was a connection to other, bigger things. So, we talked on burner phones and realized we have several problems. Mamá Robi does not wish to come back and take the gavel from me and we need to make Marchand look away.
Lyall "Lyric" Allen: At the same time, we needed to keep the Black Hand more or less anonymous. So that’s when the Wolves were conceived.
Bullet nods.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: Originally, Mamá Robi was just going to expand into Norway because her family was from there and she was re-establishing her connection there. But we also had the Cabin here that had worked for many already. Lyric was the first, we established it to help her get off heroin. Jack and I spent some time in it while suspended for drugs after her overdose. It has helped so many people right up through Morgan Payne, Ichika Sanada and Moe Rehuan that it had to be sustained. So, Mamá Robi made a whole other club in Baton Rouge and took Lyric with her. Shanna and her boyfriends joined up. Druscilla got a second charter up in New York and Cela went with her. Marchand thought there was a brewing discontent he would be able to exploit. It was real because it needed to be. Mamá Robi left me the Maidens to protect everyone involved and lead Marchand exactly where we wanted him to go. Eventually, she left the Cabin to us and went to Minnesota, branched out just like we did.
Lyric smiles.
Lyall "Lyric" Allen: He never found Dru or anyone else.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: She did not leave because of you and Zombie or anyone else who ever disagreed with her. She left to further the plan.
She pauses and nods slowly, sadly.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: She left to be Mamá.
She pauses.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: When we were together, she did not take us away from you. Jack wasn’t patched in yet. I was already VP, but I did not want you to meet VP Bullet. I wanted you to meet Ale, the way I did not want to meet the wrestler, I wanted to meet the real you. I wanted to meet the you that most do not see. I should have shown you all of me…
Bullet looks Eavan dead in her eyes.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: Lo siento, Olive.
She takes a deep breath.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: By then, I had already known Mamá Robi and Papá Oso for years. I met them on a beach in Destin, Florida when I was sixteen. I was riding back to Bay St. Louis after a trip to St Augustine with Jack. Her Mamá and Corrie had flown in to meet us there. Jack had rented a bike to ride with me. She flew back with them so I was riding by myself. I stopped to make an adjustment on my bike and this little girl was getting ice cream and these four older boys started talking like caremondas. You would give them the eagles if they were not already…
She nods knowingly.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: You would as well.
She nods to Lyric as well.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: All I had was a wrench, so I hit two of them and then they ran away. The little girl was Shanna. I walk her back to her family and we have been familia ever since. Mamá Robi never hate you. She was proud that you went back to New Jersey to make your own Cabin.
She pauses, a single tear starting to rol out of her eyes.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: She sent some of us messages that only came in because of her end. I got mine at the garage, a minute before Los Tombos came in to ask me to ideti…
She trails off, unable to continue. Lyric stares at her in shock.
Lyall "Lyric" Allen: You had to make the ID?
Bullet nods, tears now coming whether she wants them to or not.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: Sí…. they ask me… I recognize bike…
She pauses, trying to maintain what little composure she has left.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: Then ask me… I recognize… Mamá…
Lyric and Eavan look on in astonishment as Bullet starts sobbing uncontrollably. Both women stand up and move in to embrace her. Bullet lets herself go for a minute before pulling herself back together.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: THen I have to make second hardest call… I ever make… tell Shanna…
She shakes her head, her sorrow still clearly visible.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: She still not done…
She pauses and then nods to both Lyric and Eavan.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: It like when you fell off the wagon over him… and when you fell off the wagon over your father’s death. Difference is Shanna has not chosen cocaine or heroin… she has chosen violence because it’s the only way she feels…
Eavan "Sykobitty" Maloney: I can relate. Ale, I didn't think I needed to hear your apology, but between us, we're golden.
Eavan sits up in her chair and extends a hand to Lyric.
Eavan "Sykobitty" Maloney: As for you? Whatever yous need from me and Jersey, you've got it. Whatever will help Shanna, I'm with you. I'm sorry we needed this talk but I understand now, and I'm sorry for your losses.
Lyric stands and brushes of the hand to embrace Eavan. Bullet stands and joins them in the embrace.
Alex "Bullet" Carbajal: ¡Te quiero mi parche! ¡Mi familia!
