After Trauma was over, Zara told Marcus that she was going to Hayesville to check on Marley. She knew that they had just finished moving her there, but after what Zara had seen on Twitter over the weekend, she knew that her cousin would need her. Granted the slightly older of the two women knew that her cousin was in good hands…anyone that saw the pair could know that, but the protective feeling had reared up. It had been her trying to take care of Marley for so long that it wasn’t easy just to lose the urge to take care of her. Having gotten the address from her cousin, she found herself there, pulling Marley to the porch with the promise to Samuel not to keep her outside for too long since it was a little late. The pair sat down at the little patio table set up on the porch, not saying anything for a few seconds.
“Come on, Zar…I’m excited you came to visit already, but I just want to go back inside and cuddle with Samuel. This week hasn’t exactly been an easy one, and you know that, plus you just had a Hell of a match yesterday. You should be resting too. So what’s up? What couldn’t wait until tomorrow?” “You tell me...I’ve seen Twitter the last few days. I just decided that you were in good hands and that there wasn’t much I could do until after Trauma yesterday. So spill it…what happened?” Marley sighed as she pulled one of her legs into the chair on the porch, putting her foot flat against the seat of it before resting her chin on her knee, eyes more focused on her leg tattoos over anything else. Her mind had been calming down, mostly because she kept focusing on the conversations she had been having with her boyfriend about her past. Zara was willing to give Marley whatever time she needed…she knew how her cousin could get, so she had told Marcus that she would call him after the two women had spoken that way he knew when she was on the way back to the hotel.
“I wanted to run, Zar…we finished packing the place up and what I wanted to take right away was loaded for when we had planned on leaving yesterday morning. I was trying to be all flirty and sexy and shit, but those little fuckers popped up when he told me I deserve to be spoiled. I couldn’t stop myself from sending that tweet…it was like they took over completely…” Marley’s voice was soft, very unlike how she presented herself to everyone. The hazel-eyed woman became very interested in the bottom hem of the shorts she was wearing and began fidgeting with it.“Lele…” Marley shook her head, cutting her cousin off. She wasn’t done yet, but she had to pause herself.
“Z, I told him everything…I had talked to him about it briefly but never went into detail, and he never pressured me to go into it. He didn’t even push it the other night…he asked me what was wrong, told me that I could tell him anything and that he’s always there for me. God Zar…I wanted to run even more but I found myself actually fighting it for once.” Zara watched her cousin smile a little, and the other woman’s heart soared for her a little when she found out that she had fought against the urges. That was something that hadn’t happened since the spiral had started. Marley continued fidgeting with the hem of her shorts, her eyes now settled on the woman across from her. “I just laid it all out in front of him, Z…and of course, that just made those little fuckers in my head even worse. I kept hearing them tell me that I had really done it, that he wouldn’t still want to be with me now that I had aired all of my issues. I was so scared, Zara. I was scared of losing him and everything getting worse.”
Of course hearing the trembling in her cousin’s voice made that previous soar plummet right back down. They had worked hard, together, for several months to help Marley deal with things, so the thought of all of that disappearing worried the wrestler. “Lele, whether you want me to talk yet or not, I’m going to. Seeing the way he looks at you, I don’t think you ever have to worry about that. When you two are around each other, it’s like there’s no one else in the world that matters in that moment. It’s sickeningly adorable at times, honestly. You‘re nowhere near the person you were before all that bullshit happened, but you’re not quite who you were after it happened either. And I know I only played a small part in all of that.” Marley smiled weakly at Zara, letting her mind drift back to the conversation she and Samuel had after she had told him everything. She pulled her other leg up after a second, switching to hugging her legs against her body as she sighed. “I don’t want to be that person anymore, Z…because of him. He makes me feel again, but…”
Marley sighed and trailed off. The walls being down, everything that she was feeling had been what she fought against for so many years. For those years, she had focused on the physical aspect over anything else, so she was trying to remember that it didn’t have to be physical all of the time…not that she or Samuel would complain about that, but she had to remind herself that wasn’t the biggest part of a relationship, of their relationship. “But you’re scared of that too. Lele, it’s okay to be scared after what you went through. Any person would be…it’s a normal response to everything. I’m proud of you for not finding somewhere to take off for…that’s a major step in the right direction, you realize that right?” Marley nodded a little, thinking back to a few nights ago. “He told me if that happened then he’d come after me, that he’d travel to the ends of the Earth if that was what it took to find me. It made me feel so special but just made the feelings stronger, Z.”
“Pero hindi ka tumakbo. Iyon ang mahalaga, Marley. Nanatili ka...yun ang importante. (But you didn't run. That's what matters, Marley. You stayed...that's the important thing.)” Zara reached across the little table and grabbed her cousin’s hand from on her leg, giving it a squeeze. It was a major improvement from everything. “He loves you, Lele…anyone can see that. There’s no doubt in my mind about that. And you love him, you wouldn't be here if you didn't. Nothing that you went through is going to go away overnight…but you have come a long way, and I'm proud of you. You know I'm always just a call away, right?" Marley smiled then nodded in response, giving Zara's hand a little squeeze. She glanced at the front door, the gentle smile still on her face. "Yeah…I do love him like crazy. And I know you are…but I can honestly say that I'm okay." The pair got up, hugging before Marley watched Zara get in her rental and leave. The young woman smiled again before she went back into her home, which was still a somewhat foreign thought to her when crossed her mind, to be with her boyfriend.
