The Barn
From the outside, it looks like an average, rundown old barn in the middle of nowhere. A relic of an attempt at something that never really belonged even in a bygone time. Nobody really understood why the structure was there or even why it remained, just that a man named Morton had tried to build some kind of farm here a long time ago and it had not gone well for him. The story of the place varied depending on who you asked simply because of the passage of time and the fact that Morton had no descendents left in the area to hold the lore of the place sacred enough to correct all the rumors and innuendo that had arisen up around it. It had always just been there and everybody who asked got told the story in some variation.
Morton, sometimes called Brian, sometimes Brandon, sometimes even Barney, although that was almost certainly just because he was the old man in the story about a barn, had decided this was the place to make a farm and thus built a barn. This is where the stories always started to branch off because some thought he was going to raise some kind of livestock and the barn was to house their feed. Some thought it was to actually house the animals themselves. Still others thought it was a mistake made by a man who did not understand the storage differences between a barn and a grain silo and that he was going to try and store crops in it. Whatever the story, it always continued with some kind of tale about old unlucky Mister Morton coming into some kind of calamitous financial ruin and losing his farm before it ever really got off the ground. The stories usually continued with the land changing hands multiple times, no one really having any idea for why the structure was never torn down, just that it never was.
The Barn had entered local folklore.
A thousand different stories had been dreamed up by people over the years, every one of them trying to explain why there was still a gigantic old barn in the middle of an area where farming would just not work. Whatever it had been intended to be used to store had been lost to historical fact but that had not stopped people from coming up with why it was still there. Some claimed a voodoo curse. Some claimed an act of an angry God. Others cited cost or lack of manpower or other such less supernatural things. No matter which version was told, it always
ended with “and now it was used for other things.”
Jackie “Bandit” Layton had come across the building in 2019 while looking for business opportunities for the Shieldmaidens and Chrome Dragons MCs and had arranged to purchase it and restore it so that it could be used even just as an event center or some such. Rousing games of “Barnball”, indoor basketball games, were a usual activity during the day while raucous parties on the weekends meant the place had taken a new place in the hearts of locals. In the last two years, Tuesdays and Thursdays had become the new reasons for people to love the Barn even more.
Tuesdays and Thursdays were Fight Nights.
Organized by “Psycho” Saoirse Maguire, Aoife “Banshee” Maguire-Knox and their fellow Shieldmaiden, Kerry “King” Romero, the Fight Nights had become great earners for the MCs, both through selling tickets to the fights them and especially through gambling on the fights. Having extensive history with casinos and sportsbooks owing to her family’s history of gambling to the point of addiction, Bandit had been able to help them come up with a myriad of ways to make money off people betting on the fights. Now, as Psycho sits in the office behind a cluttered desk, Bandit walks, smiling broadly despite the absence of a like countenance on her friend and tag team partner.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: How did last night go, Sorsh?
Psycho shrugs as she nervously starts rifling through all the papers on the desk.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Um… I tink… I… dunno, Lass….
Bandit takes a seat in one of the two other chairs in the small office.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Well, how was the crowd?
Psycho continues looking frantically through the papers, seemingly unable to find whatever it is she’s looking for.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Aye, it bae a good night tha way…
Psycho continues looking through everything, even opening the top drawer on her right. Bandit frowns at her friend’s seeming lack of composure.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Sorsh… are you alright?
Psycho doesn’t even slow down, pulling open a second drawer and then closing it almost as fast to reach for the third and final one at the bottom.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Brilliant…
Bandit leans forward in her seat, concern written all over her face.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Sorsh…
Psycho keeps rummaging in the drawer as if she didn’t hear a word Bandit said.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: SORSH!
The king of Bandit’s voice catches Psycho off-guard.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Are you going to be ready for this weekend in Azerbaijan?
Psycho frowns, confusion reigning.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Aye…whot?
Bandit exhales heavily, sighing sympathetically.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: I get it, it’s been almost two weeks since you had that incident at NFW and…
Psycho cuts her off, fire in the Irish woman’s eyes at the mention of this event.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Incident? Jack, I bloody feckin blacked out in the middle o’ a feckin’ match like I bae on a feckin’ pub crawl an’ feckin’ called out fer me dead brother an’ tha bae jess an incident?
Psycho sits back in her chair, looking inconsolable.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Bex is feckin’ raetirin’ again baecause o’ it, Jack. I let her down.
Bandit shakes her head.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Sorsh, you didn’t let anyone down. The Astro Creeps made you have a flashback to something that would shake anybody. Bex is not retiring because you failed. She’s retiring because she made her comeback and proved what she needed to prove. Now she’s going to be a full-time wife and mother and take care of you and little RJ.
Psycho shakes her head and Bandit looks her in the eye.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: But that still leaves the question at hand…
Psycho sighs just as Bandit had earlier.
PM: Baku… th’ Gambit match tae move tae Brawl… [/font]
Bandit nods.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Are you going to be ready? We’re fighting the Mean Girlz and I still need you, Sorsh. ST doesn’t work if it’s not both of us.
Psycho nods slowly.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Aye…
She scans the desk again and then nods even more.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: King an’ Burnout kin bae handlin’ this.
She looks up at Bandit.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Let’s go back tae th’ gym an’ work on our shite, yeah?
Bandit nods, a smile forming on the blonde Canadian woman’s face.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Hell yeah, let's go!
Psycho stands up and the two head for the door, ready to train to take on the world.

The camera opens on the members of ST, Jackie “Bandit” Layton and “Psycho” Saoirse Maguire standing next to each other under the now familiar and perhaps infamous black Shieldmaidens banner with the whte lettering hanging on the wall of their warehouse gym. Both women are decked out in matching ensembles, black boots, black jeans, black homemade ST t-shirts with the letters just smeared across the shirt in blue and white on Bandit’s shirt and green and orange on Psycho’s. Their Shieldmaidens’ kuttes complete the look, both nodding to the camera.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Bae we ready then, Jack?
Bandit shrugs.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: If you mean ready to get on a plane and fly really close to warzones…
She shrugs again.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: As ready as we’re going to be. Baku, Azerbaijan and we meet the Mean Girlz in what amounts to trial by fire for us. We meet them in a Gambit match and if we win, we’re signed for the rest of the year with Brawl.
Psycho snickers.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Aye, ye’d bae knowin’ more about tha than I would, Lass. Ye always bae better wit business stuff than I am!
Bandit snickers back.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: While this is true, it does bring up the topic at hand of the Mean Girlz.
Psycho cocks her head slightly, curiosity mixing onto her face.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Aye, havna we fought them before?
Bandit nods quickly in the affirmative.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Yes, I believe we have, Sorsh, though the circumstances were different and there weren’t contracts on the line.
Psycho scoffs.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: An’ they bae th’ type tae say they bae better than us jess baecause o’ th’ fact they inhale air an’ were born, aye?
Bandit nods again.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Sadly, which is almost funny given that I wasn’t born poor or of a lower station but, they would likely still say it because my mom moved us to Mississippi when I was twelve and thus we gave up our right to call ourselves anything but the… other things that dwell there.
Psycho suddenly looks like she’s smelled something especially foul.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: Tha bae stupid, th’ gammy feckin’ bastards!
Bandit nods her agreement.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: It is but it never stops them from doing it. Fucking one trick ponies!
Psycho smirks knowingly.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: We kin bae puttin’ saddles on ‘em an’ ridin’ ‘em then?
Bandit nods, looking almost playful as she does so.
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: Hell yes, we can! Ride those ponies for all they are worth!
Psycho smirks even more playfully than before.
"Psycho" Saoirse Maguire: An show th’ world tha we bae ready fer ennithin!
Jackie "Bandit" Layton: ST’s here… and we’re ready for this Gambit to begin!
