The scene opens as we see Stacy Jones coming down the stairs of her home dressed in a plain black tank top, a pair of black Batman pajama bottoms and a purple silk bathrobe. She yawns as it appears she’s not long woken up as she makes her way into the kitchen to find Harley Ellis who is dressed in a plain red tank top and a pair of black jeans at the kitchen sink washing the dishes from last night’s meal.
Stacy Jones: Oh, don’t worry about those. I can take care of it, honey.
Harley glanced back when she heard Stacy's voice and gave her a little smile before she went back to the dishes. She had already gotten a majority of them done since it had been just the two of them the night before. She finished up the last couple of dishes and turned the water off, drying her hands off on a towel as she turned to face Stacy, leaning back against the counter in the process.
Harley Ellis: Nonsense! I'm here to help you out while you rest up! I didn't mind at all!
Stacy rubs her neck a little as a small smile forms on her lips as she nods, she’s still not used to having things done for her and as someone who always wants to be busy, it’s driving her insane.
Stacy Jones: Thank you.
Turning to the refrigerator, Stacy opens it and takes out a small carton of milk and makes her way into the lounge as Harley begins to wipe down the counters. Stacy slumps down onto the couch and takes out her phone and goes onto the app store and clicks on one of the first dating apps she comes across. Her thumb hovers over the download button as she pauses for a moment, before then shaking her head and closing the app store and tosses her phone on the couch beside her while muttering under her breath.
Stacy Jones: Not ready yet…
Harley quietly watched Stacy toss her phone to the couch. Lluv had told her about Stacy's marriage ending, and while she wasn’t 100% sure that's what the phone toss was about, she had a feeling… mostly because she had done similar actions after a significant break-up. The redhead walked over to the couch and moved Stacy's phone to the coffee table before she sat down.
Harley Ellis: It's always best to do things at your own pace… or a little slower. There's never a rush for anything, after all.
Stacy lifts her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around her legs as she rests her chin on her knees.
Stacy Jones: I know. I just… I don’t know. All of my relationships before Jen? I moved too quickly with them. And so when Jen and I started dating… because she too had come out of a long relationship… we took our time with it to make sure we knew that this one would be the right one.
The raven haired woman lets out a sigh.
Stacy Jones: Maybe I’m just destined to be alone.
Harley gave Stacy a sad smile, unsure of what to say for a few moments.
Harley Ellis: I don’t believe anyone is destined to be alone. At the time, maybe y’all were right for each other… but maybe things changed that neither of you could control that altered it all.
The redhead gave the other woman another small smile, trying to reassure her at least a little. Truthfully, she wasn’t the best at things like that, but she wasn’t one to let a friend, no matter how old or new of one they were, feel down about things if she could help it.
Stacy Jones: I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be dumping all of my personal shit on you like this. You’re here to help me with the physical crap I can’t do right now, not listen to my emotional problems.
Harley Ellis: Hey… no sorries needed. Sometimes a good way to heal physically is to talk about stuff. I’m not the greatest at advice, but that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to listen and try to give some if I’m able to.
Harley gave Stacy’s shoulder a gentle but reassuring squeeze as she smiled.
Harley Ellis: Oh! I’m silly… you just got up. I’m not much of a breakfast eater, but if you want something, I have no problem making something so you can eat!
Stacy smiles back at Harley’s kind words as she pushes some of her long black hair behind her ear.
Stacy Jones: I’m okay for now, thanks. In fact… I feel like since you’ve been here that you know a whole lot about me and I barely know anything about you. So tell me… other than streaming and video games… what revs Harley Ellis’ engine?
Harley nodded slightly then leaned back against the couch, thinking about the question. Truthfully, it wasn’t something that she had been asked in a long time.
Harley Ellis: Well… that’s a good question, honestly. It’s not one I’ve had to really think about in a while. In some ways, I’m like Lluv. Give me a horse, and I’m in my element, believe it or not. And put me in a room with kids, and I turn into a kid at heart… I’m fun Auntie Harley for a reason. Other than that, some traveling here and there, and occasionally going out, I’m honestly just content with being at home and watching TV or movies if I’m not gaming or streaming. I’m a rather simple gal.
Harley smiled sheepishly at the admittance of that. Yes, she did like going out now and then, but she really did prefer being at home when she wasn’t going on a random trip here and there. Some in her group called her boring, but she had been like that for as long as she could remember.
Stacy Jones: I get that. Admittedly I was a bit of a party animal when I was still drinking… but since I’ve been sober for several years now and just with the fact that I’m a mother of two… I mostly go out for either work or when I’m doing something with the kids…
Stacy takes a drink of her milk and smiles as she looks at Harley, almost as if she had just noticed how beautiful she looks.
Stacy Jones: So um… what kinda music do you like? Got any favorite foods? Movies? TV shows? Sorry… I’m just very much a people person and I love getting to know new people who come into my life.
Harley nodded a little in understanding and smiled gently.
Harley Ellis: No worries! I’m the same way usually, but I just hadn’t gotten around to asking much yet. And well… I listen to a little bit of everything… country, rap, rock, a little bit of metal, and some bands from across the ocean. When it comes to TV and movies, I love horror, comedies, the occasional romance theme, superhero themes but I can’t stand South Park. And give me spicy food any time, I love it!
The redhead laughed a little then shrugged before her gaze returned to Stacy.
Harley Ellis: And how about you, Ms. Jones? What tickles your fancies?
Stacy Jones: Well my all time favorite band is Nightwish, I love everything they’ve ever done and I’ve been to see them live several times… at least once with each of the three lead singers they’ve had. I’m mostly into heavy metal and rock but I enjoy a bit of rap and I’m still a sucker for some 90’s pop. TV and movies? My all time favorite movie is The Lion King… the original animated one of course. I also consider The Omen one of my favorites as well… again, the original from 1976. The Breakfast Club, Jurassic Park, Joker, The Dark Knight, Deadpool, Halloween, Friday 13th and Back to the Future are some of my other favorites so I have a bit of a mix as you can see. Some of my favorite TV shows include Stranger Things, Supernatural, Prison Break, The Walking Dead, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, NCIS, CSI and Bones just to name a few so again, quite a mix. And as for food? I love cheese. Pretty sure I’m part mouse with how much I love cheese. But I love all kinds of foods, Asian cuisine is a big one for me as I love sushi and ramen but I love all kinds of food from all over the world, and the spicier the better.
The two new friends continue chatting away with one another as the scene fades.
